Accession consists of records created or maintained by the Interfirm Comparison Service of the Department of Industry, trade and Commerce (ITC). Initially reporting to the Business Services Branch, the service was responsible for performing analyses (called interfirm comparisons) on specific firms or industries to help participants (typically small and medium enterprises) to understand their standing within their respective industry. In 1980, this program was transferred to the Programs Branch of ITC.

Records consist of the results of interfirm comparisons performed in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and food products, chemicals, resource industries, and textile and consumer products.
