This series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Explosives Division of the Mines Branch.
This series consists of four posters held by the Inspector of Explosives, that were created by explosives companies such as RACK A ROCK Co. Sherbrooke, Quebec City, Montreal Agency, and from the G.& M. Fuse Works, Arnprior, Ont.. The posters are about worker health and safety.

Canada. Mines Branch. Explosives Division : In 1909, the Mines Branch began an inquiry into conditions surrounding use of explosives in Canada due to a large number of explosive accidents in recent years. The results from the inquiry led to the conclusion in 1910 that Canada needed a Bill regulating explosives. The proposed legislation would bring the inspection and testing of explosives made in, and imported to Canada under Federal Authority. The Mines Branch and Department of Justice cooperated to write the Explosives Act. The House of Commons discussed this twenty-five clause Bill on May 4th, 1911, however due to the dissolution of Parliament in July, the Bill was not passed that year (Mines Branch, Summary Report 1911, p. 16).

The Explosives Division was added to the organizational structure of the Mines Branch in 1911 to continue to investigate explosives conditions and to push for the passing of the Explosives Act (Mines Branch, Summary Report 1911, p. 2). The House of Commons passed the Explosives Act in 1914 and decided that the Explosives Division would administer the act. This placed the regulation of the manufacture, storage, sale, and importation of Canadian explosives under the Explosives Division.
