See: Canadian Who's Who, 1982, p. 879.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Lewis Eric Reford (1900-1983) was the second son of Robert W. Reford (1867-1950) and Elsie Reford (1872-1967). He was the younger brother of Brigadier Robert Bruce Stephen Reford (1895-1972).
Eric re-established the Robert Reford Company as an independent firm and revitalized Mount Royal Rice Mills. His leadership saved the Reford family enterprises from extinction.
His training in the shipping business began in August 1923 when he spent some months in Donaldson's Glasgow office. This was followed by time in with Cairns, Noble & Co. in Newcastle and the Cunard offices in Liverpool and London. His introduction to the British and European end of the shipping business was completed with an escorted business trip to Rotterdam, Hamburg and Copenhagen.
He travelled extensively. Many of these trips, which were primarily for business, took him to places not normally frequented by Canadian tourists or even businessmen, notably to Scandinavia in the 1930s, South America, and to South Africa in the 1950s. Reford took also an active interest in politics both on the federal and local level. He served as Class C councillor on Montréal city council (1944-1954).Groupes de documents reliés :See also: Lewis Eric Reford collection (R4774 / MG 31 B 2).Source :Privé -
