Textual records (Électronique) Finding aid 12-399 is an unverified file list indicating file number, title, box number and outside dates. The title reflects the way that Transport Canada has historically organized and named its files. Titles begin at the Subject-level identifying the general subject, and then become more specific with each subsequent level in order to give a full description of the contents of a file. Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Pacific Regional Office. The accession contains records filed under the 5151-file block, though it covers two time periods that differ in how the department filed records under this file block. Prior to the mid-1990s, when Transport Canada owned and operated many airports, the 5151-file block was titled Airports - Establishment & Operations. These records document a wide range of activities related to the operations of airports such as airport licensing, construction projects at airports, financial assistance, and general operations of airports. Supporting documentation in these files includes airport inspection reports, airport operations manuals, and photos and maps of airport sites. After 1994 and the implementation of the National Airports Policy, Transport Canada took on more of a regulatory and oversight role for small and regional airports. Thus, the 5151-file block from the mid-1990s onwards is titled Aerodromes - Certifications to reflect this change. Files from this era are more narrowly focused and typically only include airport inspection reports, and some supporting documentation such as photos of airport sites.
