This file contains architectural and design drawings of the United States pavilion which was built and designed for Expo 67. This was intended as a temporary foreign government-sponsored pavilion located in Expo Area: Ile Sainte-Hélène. The pavilion's structure was a geodesic dome and it consisted of four multi-level exhibit platforms and concourses, the highest of which was reached by the longest escalotor constructed at the time. The building theme was "Creative America" designed by the "Cambridge Seven" and featured displays of American innovations in art and technology. The owner/contracting body of the structure was the United States Information Agency, Washington D.C. The design architects were R. Buckminster Fuller, Fuller & Sadao Inc., and Geometrics Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts (Dome); Cambridge Seven Associates Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts (Interior); the local associate architect was George F. Eber, Montreal. Project Type: National and Private Participants = Participants nationaux et privés. Ownership of the pavilion was transferred to the City of Montreal on January 31, 1968; it operated as a public attraction until 1976 when the building was damaged by a fire that broke out during maintenance. In 1990, Environment Canada signed an agreement with the City of Montreal to transform the structure into a Biosphere which officially opened on June 5, 1995.
