The accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Kootenay-Okanagan District Office of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and its predecessors. Predecessors include: The Kootenay-Okanagan Agency, the Kootenay Agency, and the Okanagan Agency.

The accession includes, but is not limited to records relating to: band management, including membership, and claims and disputes; administration buildings, including rented accommodation, and administration owned buildings; school buildings, including survey of school building requirements, and staff residence; miscellaneous buildings and projects; engineering services, including flood and water control, and bridges; law enforcement, including employment of counsel, and pool rooms, dance halls, etc; and economic development.
