Sub-series consists of the subject files of the Conservation and Renewable Energy Branch (CREB) of the Energy Sector and its predeccesors.

CREB is seen as early as 1978/1979 when it was an amalgamation of the Office of Energy Conservation (OEC) and the Renewable Energy Branch (REB). CREB also appears to be in use again in the late 1980s.

At some point during the 80s, the branch was referred to as the Energy Conservation and Oil Substitution Branch under the Conservation and Non-Petroleum Sector. At the time of initial appraisal of these records (ca. 1995), this branch was called the Efficiency and Alternative Energy Branch (EAEB). As of 2017, this function is performed by the Office of Energy Efficiency.

Note sur le classement :

Files with the CE prefix were in use by the Conservation and Renewable Energy Branch and make up the bulk of the records. Typically, they have been rolled forward from the previously used CN and CR prefixes. The CN prefix (referring to Conservation and Non-Petroleum) and CR prefix (referring to Energy Conservation and Oil Substitution) were phased out and active files moved into the CE prefix, however, those files which were dormant or referenced programs in a wind-down phase retained their original prefix.
