Fonds consists of 10 photographs taken by David "Dave" Wright during his career with the Royal Canadian Navy. Four of the images depict the torpedoing of the cargo ships SS Essex Lance and SS Joannis, on September 16th, 1942. The HMSC Vegreville, which Wright was stationed aboard, was part of a convoy with the SS Essex Lance and SS Joannis, with the SS Joannis sinking, and the SS Essex Lance remaining afloat. David Wright captured this episode with his personal camera. The remaining photographs include views of the HMCS Kamloops in Halifax, 1941; HMCS Saskatoon; a Corvette ship; and a view of the French submarine, the Surcouf.

Additionally, Mr. Wright provided three pages of supporting textual documentation (original located in Accession File, copy kept with the photographs, in volume 1).

Wright, David : David Wright joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940 and served on various ships until the end of the Second World War. He took part in the Battle of the St. Lawrence aboard the HMCS Vegreville, which was running escort to convoys headed to and from Europe.
