The material included in this accrual is comprised entirely of photographs from Louie Palu's body of work that derived from a 5-year (several, 4-7 month visits, 2006-2011) embedded study in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The series consists of 34 photographs, including 1 panorama and 1 triptych. The collection serves to document: members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as they operated on both sides of the wire in the Kandahar region, the Afghan National Police force (ANP), the Afghan National Army (ANA), local civilians, suspected insurgents, and terrain that is characteristic to the region.

The selection of the photographs showcase the CAF members in combat, on patrol, interacting with citizens, and guarding those captured, as well as periods of rest and downtime. The primary location for the project was the province of Kandahar, and the selected images fall between 2007 and 2010.

Palu curated a number of galleries using the images he captured in Afghanistan, including: Afghanistan: The Fighting Season, Afghanistan: Kandahar to Helmand, Kandahar: The Void of War, Tarnak Farms: al Qaeda HQ, and Panjwa'i Patrol. This aquisition includes some representation from each series, and this information has been captured at the item level.
