New Horizons, a project program for senior citizens, was introduced in September 1972 and confirmed as a continuing program in December 1974. It has three main objectives: to encourage retired persons to participate in community life; to offer retired persons an opportunity to put their experience and knowledge to work for their benefit and for the benefit of others; and to build friendships and encourage mutual aid amongst retired people.

The records in this accession consist of selected examples of New Horizons project files, such as those found in RG 29, Accession 1994-95/695. Project files contain application form(s), statements on activity and accounting reports, funding approval forms, notes on the review of the project application, correspondence, Project Review and Evaluation Forms, Phase 1 Report Fact Sheets, and/or Phase 1 Assessment reports.
