Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety : The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is a national institute with the mandate to study, encourage, advance, and promote the fundamental right of "health and safety in the workplace in Canada and the physical and mental health of working people in Canada."

The CCOHS was established in 1978 with the passage of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Act (S.C., 1977-78, c. 29). The Centre is an independent departmental corporation accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Labour (Employment and Social Development Canada).

CCOHS promotes and facilitates consultation and cooperation among federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions and participation by labour, management and other stakeholders in the establishment and maintenance of high standards and occupational health and safety initiatives for the Canadian context.

The mandate of the Centre also includes the facilitation of consultations and participation among labour, management, and government; the establishment and maintenance of high standards; providing assistance in the development and maintenance of policies and programs; and serving as a national centre for statistics and other information.

In fulfilling its mandate, the CCOHS promotes, assists, initiates, and evaluates research; publishes and disseminates information; sponsors and supports conferences, public meetings, and seminars; and supports and facilitates the training of personnel in the field of workplace health and safety.

The Centre is a recognised leader in providing a wide range of effective programs, products and services through information and knowledge transfer; training and education; management systems; injury and illness prevention initiatives; and the promotion of global well-being (physical, psychosocial, and mental health) of workers.

The Centre is governed by a tripartite council representing labour, government, and employers to ensure a balanced approach. The Centre is located in Hamilton, Ontario.
