Series documents the career of Basil (Buzz) Hargrove in his role as President of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) and his earlier roles as Assistant to the Director of the Canadian UAW and as Assistant to the President of the CAW. Series documents labour relations (collective bargaining, grievances, administration of collective agreement, health and safety) with employers in the airline and automotive industries (Air Canada, Canadian Airlines International, CP Air, Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, etc.). Series also documents administration and operation of the union, including CAW councils (collective bargaining, administration of collective agreements), the union's political activities and social causes, and activities related to federal and provincial government policy (airline deregulation, trade agreements).

Hargrove, Buzz : Basil Eldon "Buzz" Hargrove (b. 1944), labour leader, is former head of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).

He was born in Bath, New Brunswick. He left school as a teenager and was hired by Chrysler in Windsor, Ontario, in 1964. He became interested in the labour movement and the United Auto Workers (UAW) and was elected steward in 1965.

In 1978, he had risen to become special assistant to Bob White, head of the Canadian district of the UAW. In 1985, Bob White led the Canadian district to separate from the UAW and to create the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW). Buzz Hargrove was Assistant to the President of the CAW (1985-1992) and, after Bob White resigned from the CAW, was elected president (1992-2008).

Buzz Hargrove was ombudsperson for the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) and professor at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) lecturing on economics and labour.

He has written two books: a memoir entitled "Labour of love: the fight to create a more humane Canada" (with Wayne Skene; Toronto: Macfarlane Walter & Ross, 1998) and a discussion, examination and criticism of the financial crisis of 2008 called "Laying it on the line: driving a hard bargain in challenging times" (Toronto: HarperCollins, 2009, 2010).
