I first met Veard at the end of his dock. He was standing there, holding buckets of fish guts. I asked him if he'd been there for a while. Veard doesn't always hear right, so his response made sense. He put the great buckets down "Tomorrow morning, seven o-clock, we're a-going fishing." I said that I didn't know anything about fishing. "No matter." Onboard, I asked Veard about his life. "Nothing nothing." I said: "But you fish! For how long?" He thought about it. "Near seventy year I guess." Who does anything for seventy years anymore? Later that day, we go for a drive, up and up to this high point in PEI. Veard says: "Now, there's a photo." I ask him what he likes about this place. "See that over there?" Veard points, and there, about 6 miles away, is the ocean. "That's the water - and water takes the eye."
