In 1982, Eldorado bought Gulf Minerals Canada Limited Companys (GMCL) from Gulf Canada Limited. One of GMCL's principal concerns was the development of uranium mining sites around Rabbit Lake, in Saskatchewan. Eldorado also bought the assets of a German-owned, Canadian-incorporated company called Uranerz, which had entered into a joint venture with GMCL in 1970 to develop the Rabbit Lake sites.
The Records of the Planning Department include some of the most significant records of GMCL. For reasons which would require more research, the desk files of the president of GMCL, R.N. Taylor, are included in these boxes. These are the only files from the president's office that were found. His files include significant documentation on most of the organizational entities within GMCL, as well as on its external relations. The planning records also include the files of the senior planning officer, R.T. Oswald, Manager-Planning.
