John was born in 1914. The Norwegian family moved around several times and settled in Swift Current. John worked on many farms and eventually attended a Marxist school in Regina for three weeks in 1937. He was elected to school board and council in the late 1930s. He was also elected to the board of Pioneer Co-Op. John discusses the Communist Party of Canada and the New Democratic Party that existed in his region.
