Jane was born in Port Hope Ontario in 1956. She took a qualifying year at Carleton. She outlines some of Ottawa Committee for Labor Action's(OCLA) activities over the years. OCLA and the Communist Party of Canada (CPC) were mutually exclusive circles, although there was some spillover in the Ottawa Coalition for Full Employment, and in Ontario Working Women (OWW). She worked on a CPC municipal campaign. Jane assisted an oral history project on women in the labour movement while on leave from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).
