Gil was born in 1924 to Jewish immigrants. In regular public school, he and a friend tried to start a student council. They tried to divert their school's war aid collection from Britain to Russia. Gil flirted with the Co-operative Commonwealth Youth Movement (CCYM). He was thus drafted, selecting service as a Zombie. After the war Gil went back to school at University of Toronto in sociology. He joined the Party club on campus. In his work with the Party, Gil helped on Salsberg's campaign in 1955. In 1956 a research job came up at the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE). As Research Director of the largest affiliate, he was ostracized at the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). He outlines the history of caucuses at the CLC, and how their various manifestations arose. During this time Gil often felt closer to the position of the Workers' Communist Party. He twice visited the Soviet Union, and was appalled at the housing. <133mn>Langue :EnglishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
