The National Harbours Board was created in 1936 as an agency corporation with jurisdiction over various harbours and grain elevators, including the Port of Vancouver (See National Harbours Board Act, 1936; Government Harbours and Piers Act; and the Harbour Commission Act, 1964). The Port is responsible for the maintenance, upgrading and expansion of port facilities and property in order to ensure safe, efficient and economical management and services to local, national or international port users.
This accession consists of reports and studies accumulated at the offices of the Port of Vancouver. These reports were created and distributed by a large variety of internal and external agencies including the Port itself, the National Harbours Board, various levels of government, task forces, committees, etc. Please consult the file list for specific titles and subjects.

These records were originally held in British Columbia. They were transferred to the National Capital Region in 2016 and are available for consultation there.
