This accession consists of three types of records created and/or maintained by the Unemployment Insurance Branch of Employment and Immigration Canada.

Canadian Umpire Benefits (CUB) case files (boxes 1-5): The files document the appeals of employees and employers under CUB, the last of three levels of appeal under the Unemployment Insurance Act. Each file contains correspondence, copies of documents submitted to CUB which served as exhibits, copies of previous decisions of the Commission, decisions of the Umpire, and follow-up correspondence concerning the decision. These files represent a sample of those on persons whose surnames begin with F.

Mancase correspondence files (boxes 6-7): The case files consist of queries, comments and complaints from the public regarding all aspects of the department's manpower program including job opportunities, unemployment, economic conditions, and to a lesser extent immigration. The correspondence was handled at the Ministerial level and matches the Ministerial, Deputy Minister's series, and regional offices. Each file contains correspondence between complainants and Departmental and/or ministerial officials. Included are two "fat files" on individuals who corresponded extensively and over lengthy periods with the department. The remaining files represent a sample of those on persons whose surnames begin with F.

Unemployment Insurance Account Ledgers Series (box 8): Two ledgers originally created by the Unemployment Insurance Commission. The ledgers contain UIC national budgetary trial balances detailing net expenditures, budgetary allotments, and unliquidated encumbrances for the periods, March 1945 to March 1969, and March 1970 and March 1972.
