This series contains material relating to Silcox's childhood and youth, as well as documents created and retained through activities not directly related to his professional or scholarly pursuits. The series documents, among other things, Silcox's membership in the Ontario Queen's Scouts Canadian Coronation Contingent, in which Silcox represented the region of Northern Ontario (Burwash) at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as Silcox's early life at Victoria College (University of Toronto), as Hart House Undergraduate Secretary, and his activities while abroad in the U.K. and Europe in the 1960s. Photographic material reveals his involvement with the Canadian visual arts community from the 1960s onwards, including slides from the Canada Council's final cross-country visual arts tour. The series also contains greeting cards and personal correspondence from Silcox's boyhood through to 2010; as well as: Silcox family documents, letters, and photos; personal and legal documents; invitations; awards and certificates, including Silcox's Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, honorary degree from the University of Windsor, his Order of Canada, and the Governor-General's Award in Visual and Media Arts; theatre playbills and other programs from performing arts events; records of political contributions and philanthropic donations; and material relating to various artist friends, including the N.E. Thing Co.. Finally, the series also contains personal slides and photographs from travels, and family events.

A number of the records in the correspondence files from 1986-1991 were unpacked from 2 boxes containing Silcox's Ministry of Culture and Communications (MCC) papers. These records represent his ongoing social and personal engagements during this period, though other records documenting social engagements directly related to his ministerial duties have, as much as possible, been retained with the ministerial papers of the MCC sub-series.
