Following a shot of a large telephone switchboard, camera focuses on silicon chips on a surface contrasted with old fashioned componentts. An electronic hobbyist works on a pre-transistor age project. Cut to transistors and to shrunken electronic circuits, printed and etched on circuit boards. Integrated circuits (I.C.) are being worked on and manufactured by the hundreds at a time. One of these circuits are compared with grains of salt. Graphic representations show the assembly of the tiny components. Lasers are being used to cut apart identical circuits from a plate of hundreds of circuits.
