Interview of Esse W. Ljungh, radio drama producer, by Josephine Langham of the Sound Archives Division of the Public Archives of Canada, about: his early career in radio in Winnipeg; radio in Winnipeg in the 1930s; personalities he knew such as Tommy Tweed; his interest in drama; early experiments in sound effects; scripts in early radio; radio programming; radio actors and microphone techniques; suond effects and their impact on the listeners; activities of the various radio stations; performers' fees and budgets; controversial shows; listener reactions; his work for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; the Second World War; the war's effect on radio drama; and programming; radio playwright Len Peterson; Ray Darby; Ljungh's work as the drama producer for the CBC Prairie Region; Harry Boyle; radio producer Andrew Allan; the influence of Laurence Gilliam; the attraction of working for the CBC in Toronto; the radio drama series CBC Stage; CBC Stage producer Andrew Allan; Ljungh's decision to move to Toronto; his early experiences working for the CBC in Toronto; and the radio series CBC Wednesday Night. <2h>
