This is a preliminary sub-sub-series; please consult the linked accession for its boxes 1-11.

Sub-sub-series consists of a collection of copied civil air occurrence reports (summaries of occurrence investigations) for the years 1949-1977. The majority of reports in the collection consist of one or two page summary accident reports, which contain information such as aircraft type, description of occurrence, and assigned causes of the occurrence. A minority of reports in the collection instead consist of a report in another format, for example as an in-depth report of formal enquiry or inquiry.

In the collection, the reports are grouped by year. From 1970 onwards, most records pertaining to headquarters and each region are segregated.

The sub-sub-series will be useful to researchers who have a date range of interest, and who wish to comb through the air occurrence reports for that date range. Please note, there is no indication that this reference collection contains each and every air occurrence report for the years 1949-1977.

Historique de la conservation :

The records were transferred by the Transportation Safety Board at the time of its creation in 1990. Because the records pertain to occurrences when the Department of Transport was responsible for air occurrence investigation, the records have been included in the Transport Canada fonds.

Aircraft accident reports for 1953-1973 may also be found in the sister sub-sub-series "Aircraft Accident Reports for distribution."

Published occurrence report summaries from the 1970s are found in the library holdings of Library and Archives Canada. Researchers may wish to consider consulting the "Aircraft Accident Reports" (AMICUS 2477175) or "Synopses of Aircraft Accidents" (AMICUS 2828768).
