Some 125,000 British orphans and abandoned children who were shipped to Canada between 1867 and 1914, without guardians, by well-intentioned Christian institutions. Victim of the advance of the Industrial Revolution in Britain, the children came to Canada with hopes of finding "Heaven on Earth" in the loving arms of a family. For some, Canada was indeed a salvation. But for many it was a battle for survival. This film depicts the lives of five who began their new lives in New Canaan, Ontario.~The five children are Megan Dove, a devout and determined 15-year-old Welsh girl; Robin Dove, Megan's 6-year-old brother, who is separated from her early in their journey; Ian Okens, an intrepid, 15-year-old Cockney; Gary Andrews, a sensitive and studious Welsh boy; and Sopie Payne, a spirited but troubled girl from Wales. <98mn 24s>
