These records, which originate with the Northwest District Office of Indian Affairs, were mainly created in the Terrace Agency office. The Terrace Agency was created in 1959 by bringing together the Kitamaat Band from the Bella Coola Agency with the Gitlakmadix, Kitsumkalum, Kakalzap and Kitselas Bands from the Skeene River Agency. In the late 1960s, when the Department was closing, amalgamating and redesignating agency offices, the Terrace Agency Office became known as the Northwest District Office.
The records in this accession include general files on the office establishment, social assistance files, Indian Economic Fund Development files, and estate files. The records pertain to the following Responsibility Centre Codes: 984; 986. Researchers should note that there are two Block Numeric Central Registry files in box 7 E3740; E4549 and E6550.
