Interview of Dr. J. J. Green by Don Phillipson. Subjects discussed include: Margaret Parkins; General A.G.L. McNaughton very interested in aviation; Senator M. Lamontagne; J.J. Shepherd; Litton Systems Ltd., makes electro-mechanical inertial navigation instruments for aircraft, based exclusively on Newton's laws of motion; Reid Johnson; A.D. Little Company; NRC Science Association and informal group within Physics Division, where staff reported on their own projects and interests; D.F. Stedman and the windshield rain repellant - solved problem of optical distortion by rain on aircraft windshield; friendship and cross-fertilization were intrinsic to success of NRC's early years; NRC facilities and testing tanks had far fewer clients than expected; K. Tupper; Montreal Road facility was primarily for boats and not aircraft floats; E.S. Turner; arrival of the Greens to Ottawa and the contrasts between London, England and Ottawa; The Depression had taken hold by the time the wind tunnel was completed; CNR locomotive design was to keep smoke from blinding the driver so streamlining was the answer; and President H.M. Tory envisaged the growth of NRC. <2h 10mn>

J.J. Green was involved in Wind-tunnel tests, the Aeronautics lab and the Aeronautics Museum. He is also mentioned in the book: "Mechanical Engineering at the National Research Council of Canada, 1929-1951".
