The National Harbours Board was created in 1936 as an agency corporation with jurisdiction over various harbours and grain elevators, including the port of Vancouver. The port was responsible for the maintenance, improvement and expansion of port facilities and property to ensure the provision of safe and efficient services to local, national, and international port users.
