Sound recording of remote broadcasts of big band music by the orchestras of Moxie Whitney and Del Courtney.~The closing portion of a KGMB CBS remote features the Moxie Whitney orchestra broadcasting from Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States of America. Announcer Ed Sheehan introduces the musicians and the compositions. Included are performances of: medley (Fascination; The Wishing Waltz, composed by Whitney and Bert Lown; Around the World); Ka-Lu-A (Love Song of Kalua), from the motion picture Bird of Paradise; closing theme. ~The KGMB CBS radio broadcast of 29 September 1962 from the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Honolulu, features Moxie Whitney and his orchestra with Roy Roberts and other vocalists. Host Ed Sheehan introduces the musicians and compositions. Included are performances of: I Want to Learn to Speak Hawaiian; Malihini Mele; medley (Talk of the Town; The Very Thought of You; Up a Lazy River; Dream a Little Dream of Me); Sweet Leilani; Let Me Fill Your Night with Music (composed by Whitney, Bert Lown, [Moe?] Jaffe); Hapa Haole Hula Girl; Here's Hawaii.~Another KGMB CBS radio remote broadcast from the Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Honolulu, features Moxie Whitney and his orchestra with Roy Roberts and other vocalists. Included are performances of: unidentified; I'll Weave a Lei of Stars for You; On the Beach at Waikiki; My Wahini and Me; Night and Day; unidentified; I'm Going to Marry Mary Elizabeth (composed by Moxie Whitney, Bert Lown, and [?]).~Another remote broadcast features Del Courtney and his orchestra in performance at the New Kenmore Hotel, Albany, New York, USA. Joe Martin is the featured vocalist on some selections. Included are performances of: Sometimes I'm Happy; Simple and Sweet; You're Lovely, Madame; At Long Last Love; You're a Heavenly Thing; The Man I Love; Make Believe; Easter Parade; We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye.~Another remote features Del Courtney and his orchestra broadcasting from the Rose Room of the Palace Hotel, San Francisco, USA. Included are performances of: Five Minutes More; Walking Away with My Heart; unidentified; Old Buttermilk Sky; Do You Ever Think of Me; In the Hall of the Mountain King (incomplete, ending cut off). 1. Other extent, physical details information - 1 audio cassette : polyester.~2. Surface noise and crackling suggest that the Del Courtney New Kenmore Hotel recording is a dub from an audio disc.~3. The 29 September 1962 Whitney broadcast has been dated by a voice-over comment at the beginning of the broadcast. Notes on the audio cassette box label indicate that the other two Whitney broadcasts are on 15 and 22 September 1962, but it is not clear which programme aired on which date. Dates of the remotes by Del Courtney are not known.~4. The third Whitney programme is split between the two sides of the cassette. The first side ends with On the Beach at Waikiki, and the next side begins with My Wahini and Me. That side then continues with the two Courtney remotes.~5. The Whitney remotes are sponsored by the United States Treasury Department. Sheehan's commentary indicates that they were broadcast internationally on the Armed Forces Radio Service.~6. Audio quality ranges from fair to good.
