The twenty-fifth episode in this television documentary series looks at the political and economic consquences of the war on Germany, Japan, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, the United States, and Asian European colonies formerly occupied by the Japanese. The emphasis is on demilitarization and reconstruction.~The following topics and events are covered: the creation of the United Nations; the Allied occupation and administration of Germany and Japan; the Potsdam Conference; and the Nuremberg Trial.~The following scenes, shots and sounds are shown and heard: Allied generals toast to victory; side-walk cafés. outside dining, and night life in occupied Germany; the Soviet entry in Leipzig; refugees being processed by the Western Occupation Administration; Himmler lying dead after suiciding; and the release of the concentration camp inmates, prisoners of war, and slave labourers.~Comments are made by: Stephen Ambrose, American historian; William Robertson of the US Army; Kay Summersby, US Army, 1945; Charles Bohlen, US State Department, 1945; Lord Avon, Secretary of State, 1945; Averell Harriman, US Ambassador to Moscow; Admiral Lord Mountbatten, Supreme Commander for Southeast Asia; and Lord Shawcross, Nuremburg proscuter.~Additional footage includes the Polish Allied troops being given an official thank-you and send-off by the British. <60mn>
