This eleventh program in this television documentary series looks at the nature and course of the German offensive in the Soviet Uion in the period between 1941 and 1943, and the character of the Soviet defence in its continuous duel with the enemy.~The following topics and events are covered: the Russian scorched earth policy; the reaction of local nationalists to the German occupiers; the planned evacuation of the Soviet industrial population and factories; the building of factories and the production of muniitions in the eastern Soviet Union; the Siege of Stalingrad; the horrors of the Nazi occupation; Partisan group organization and sabotage; the Battle of Kursk; the retreat of the German army; the liberation of Orel, Belgorod, and Kiev.~The following shots, scenes, and sounds are shown and heard: Cracow street scenes during the German occupation; the house to house round-up of Communists and Jews in a Soviet town; Marshal Zhukov, Soviet Commander; Andrei Sdanov, Soviet Commander; SS deportation and murdering; Russian peasants weeping at an open grave where murdered relatives lie frozen; Russian Orthodox ceremonies; songs of the Partisans and the of the Red Army; the beating and execution of collaborators; a woman spits at a German prisoner of war being paraded with other prisoners - their heads shaven - through a Leningrad street; the ceremonial burial of dead Russian soldiers; and the recitation of Russian wartime poetry.~Comments are made by: Olgar Rybakova, Leningrad housewife; V. Klokov, Unkrainian partisan; Nicolai Volkov, factory worker; Ivan Ludnikov, Corps Commander; and Ivan Chistyakov, Commander of the 6th Guard Army. <60mn>
