Proceedings of a convention held in London, England on the thirthieth anniversary of the Un agreement to establish the State of Israel. The convention was organised by the Jewish Solidarity Committee in London to consider ways that rabbis could lead communities to strengthen the Jewish State and express solidarity with Israel. An introductory speech by Rabbi Emmanuel Jacobovits about: Emil Fackenheim; Zionism; the Holocaust; Emil Fackenheim the expert on the Holocaust, his career, his books. This is followed by a speech entitled "The Zionist Imperative Today" by Professor Emil Fackenheim about: Jewish history; Hermann Cohen, Cohen's idea that the Jews did not need a state of their own history, the Jewish state, Jewish messianism; Hermann Cohen, Cohen's historical situation; Germany, World War II, Jewish refugees; Jew, Jewish refugees, the story of the "St Louis" refugee ship, the reactions of the USA and Canada to the Jewish refugees; Nazis, Nazis and the Jews, the burning of live babies in Auschwitz; concentration camps, the story of Rabbi Shapiro and Treblinka concentration camp; religion and secularism, the question of secular saints; Israel, the foundation of Israel; history, the historicity of contemporary Jewish existence; Israel, the significance of Israel, the symbol for the Jews; USSR, Soviet policy towards the Jews, Gromyko, Gromyko and Soviet policy towards the Jews at the UN; Israel, the recognition of Israel, the establishment of Israel; Theodo Herzle's dream of the disappearance of anti-semitism, history, failed dreams of the nineteenth century, Karl Mark and Marxism; Theodor Herzl, Jews can not defend themselves without a state; the Holocaust, research on the Holocaust, Rabbi Greenberg's research on the Holocaust; history, the history of the State of Israel, secular and religious themes in modern Israel; H.D.
