Accession contains operational records of the Edmonton Office of the Department of Regional Economic Expansion (DREE). The records relate to three program areas and are arranged in DREE's file classification system from 1973.

Boxes 1-15 contain industrial incentive case files stemming from the Regional Development Incentives Act (1969) and its predecessor the Area Development Incentives Act (1965). Files date 1969-1977. Records are filed by the last five digits, indicating the case, and the main block (730 or 602).

Boxes 16-22, and 25 cover DREE's Special Areas Program which was intended to provide a degree of economic expansion and social stability designated regions of Canada. These files pertain specifically to Lesser Slake Lake in Alberta, which was designated as a Special Area in 1970. Projects include improvement of water and sewer systems, road improvements, new schools, an industrial park, an airport, and a vocational training centre. The years covered are 1970-1975. Records are found in file block 710.

Boxes 23-24 pertain to the second agreement of the Agricultural and Regional Development Act (ARDA II) and Special ARDA. ARDA II is represented in only one file, dating 1970-1973 (block 740). The rest of the material relates to Special ARDA, which was established in 1972 with a specific focus on economic development in rural areas with a high concentration of native people. It provided financial assistance for projects in areas such as fishing, farming, forestry as well as research projects, soil and water conservation, and the development of community pastures.
