Documentary film on the history, training and work of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (1958). Brief introductory footage by RCMP Commissioner L. Nicholson explaining the federal, provincial and municipal mandate of the RCMP. The history of the RCMP and its historic march west and the early detachments at Lower Fort Garry, Fort Duffering, Fort Macleod and Fort Walsh are captured in panoramic shots and black and white stills. Also segments on recruit training at N Division, Ottawa, and the work of G Division (NWT and Yukon); the Air and Marine Divisions; and the Mobile Detachment which services remote areas. Rounding out the film are segments on the RCMP schooner, St. Roch,; police communications; presentation of the "Guidon"; the Musical Ride; the RCMP Band and the crime laboratories and central crime registries at H.Q., Ottawa. <40mn>
