The records in this accession were either created in or collected by J.E. Mclaughlin who was secretary of the Canadian Wheat Board 1970 to 1981. Many of these records, however, document activities preceding Mclaughlin's executive appointments. A description of these records would include the following types of records. Minutes of the Grain Transportation Technical Group (which was established in 1967 by the Grain Transportation Committee to develop and implement a new system of shipping grain) 1967-1970; general correspondence files and some technical reports, 1950-1974; minutes of the operations group, 1968-1969; as well as minutes of the Vancouver Committee and Lakehead Committees of the Operating Group. (The Operating Group, chaired by the president of the SWB, was formed to coordinate grain movements by securing and distributing information among producers and producer organizations.) Grain Transportation Committee reports, summary statements of the Operating Grain Committee, and files containing agreements with american companies were also included. Additional miscellaneous items were an historic case file documenting the Maple Leaf Milling Company's sale of wheat to Italy in 1948, and the papers prepared by R.E. Elliott during his tenure as statistical economist with the CWB, c.1949-1952.
