In presenting their report, entitled Learning a Living in Canada, Wilkinson, Dan Benedict, International Representative of the United Auto Workers, and Robert Mayson, Dean of Engineering at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, present an overview of the objectives, contents and perspectives of the study. Programs and studies arising from the Commission on Educational Leave Policy recommendations are cited; labour problems due to changes in economic, technological, industrial and social conditions are examined; and the need for links to be forged between education and the work place discussed. Problems of illiteracy, shortage of skilled labour, unemployment, average age of the work force, and the post-secondary school education system are raised.
