Professor Irwin Cotler of McGill University and Sharansky's lawyer, reports on the letter recently received by French Communist chief, Georges Marchais, from Soviet leader Yuri Andropov and explains his reply to the letter with supporting legal argument. On a visit to Ottawa, Sharansky's wife Avital reports on her husband's physical condition in Christopol prison where he has been on a hunger strike for 4 months; the refusal of the KGB to permit his mother to visit him; and the necessity for continued world pressure demanding Sharansky's release.
