Video recording of the inauguration ceremonies held on 4 May 1989 for the new Canadian Pacific line through the Rogers Pass. It shows: crowds waiting for the ceremony to begin; arrival of a CP train; crowd waving; arrival of guests by train; pipe band; speech by Barry Scott, chair and chief executive officer of the Canadian Pacific Railway; aerial views of the site; a blessing of the rail line by Reverend Lloyd Northcott; visuals of trains travelling along the line; speech by Charles J. Mayer, Minister of Western Economic Diversification; speech by T. Neil Vant, British Columbia Minister of Transportation and Highways; unveiling by former CPR executives Fred Burbidge and Russ Allison of plaque commemorating the official inauguration; a shot of the long viaduct, which will be named after John Fox, CPR's senior engineer in charge of the Rogers Pass project; speech by Pieter Van Vliet of the Engineering Institute of Canada and presentation of the Julian C. Smith medal by Van Vliet to Fox; walkie-talkie communications between Bill Stinson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the parent company, Canadian Pacific, acting here as honorary conductor, and CP Rail staff, to inaugurate the line; more aerial views of the viaduct, tracks and other parts of the rail line; the signing of a an official receipt for the rail line; more shots of the crowd and the departure of the train.
