Documentary about the growing opposition to Boris Yeltsin, much of it coming from Communist hardliners. This is shortly after the Constitutional Court of Russia restored the legal status of the Communist Party. Subjects discussed include: the Communist Party rejuvenating itself; concerns by some Russians about the rise of nationalism and the threat of fascism and civil war; hardliners on the extreme left and the extreme right; and the hope among supporters of democracy that some people now have too much to lose to turn their back on capitalism. Interviewees include: two students in an English-language class in Moscow; Anatoly Shabad, a deputy in the Russian parliament; the foreign editor of Izvestia; and Oleg Kalugin, a former general in the KGB who denounced the Soviet intelligence system in 1990.
