A Canadian Flash Animation Festival compilation of film shorts that asks for audience participation in post performance voting for their favourite short via www.cbc.ca/mapleshorts. The program features a fish named Cella and a goose named Knuckle who introduces the shorts while participating in their own adventure. The pair are alone in a theatre. Knuckle is eating too much junk food so Cella says she will clean out the food counter and lock up the candy in a safe while Knuckle watches a few shorts. In WRESTLERVILLE the men are costumed wrestlers; the fences look like wrestling rings, macho is the credo. Unfortunately wimpy Marty McWrestle plays the violin and wants to join the school band. His father is horrified that Marty does not make first violin and wrestles the music teacher into submission, however, by this time Marty is gone. Thinking his father would approve, Marty says he should try for the wrestling team like everyone else but is surprised when his father says he should try another instrument if music is what he likes. Back to the theatre where Cella tries to tempt Knuckle with healthy snacks, like celery, which he finds he likes. CALLISTO IN 15 MINUTES is the story of a cat named Callisto who is rummaging in a garbage can with a stray friend, Queenie. In the meantime a mother rolls a baby stroller under a tree branch and goes to fetch an extra blanket. A group of crows assemble on the branch which begins to break. Callisto reacts quickly, pushing the stroller from harm and is joined by Queenie who asks if she is ok. The mother thinks it is Queenie who saved her baby and media attention, sponsorships and fame ensue. Callisto is dismayed and seeks recognition, fame and fortune for herself by doing a stunt for her owners, which goes wrong. Soon enough the stray is back in the garbage can, the moments fame now forgotten. Good while it lasted, Callisto realizes the benefits of having a loving family. Still, in the end, Callisto muses that she will get her 15 minutes of fame - sooner or later. Back to the theatre Knuckle has turned into a health zealot. It is now Cella who over-indulges in junk food and secretly goes to the safe to get some candy only to find Knuckle inside eating to his hearts content. This precipitates a battle for candy. BIOEXIS, EARTH'S LAST STAND is the story of three bionic children designed to help save the planet from pollution. Each has a special gift over a natural element: water, fire and air. They must use their powers to prevent Nox Emerson exploiting the earth's natural resources for his own gain and for world domination. The scene is the Alberta Rockies in 2016. The kids are planting trees to help create oxygen. However, Emerson and his chaotic cohort have other plans as they cause an avalanche to destroy the trees. A snowboard verses snowmobile battle ensues but the kids prevail, for now. The story ends with a parade of Emerson's cronies and his maniacal laughter. In EARL THE TALKIN' PIE, Sound-Affects Joe sits by a roaring fire and tells the story of Paul and Earl. Paul is messy and lazy while Earl is a talking pie. Paul, Earl and friends watch TV but soon go outside and experience fresh air. Scenes are interspersed with sound effects. Earl's arch-enemy the evil Chocolate Cake, is introduced as are his henchmen, Goon, Dr. Sconervitz and Sconebot. Chocolate Cake is on a wheeled cart. Earl is chased and, employing a musical number, gets himself out of a jam. Chocolate Cake confides that he can't resist a musical number which Earl says works every time. The program ends with Cella reminding all to go to the website to vote for their favorite. <26mn>
