FREEDOM III is a series of programs documenting Canadian choreography. This episode is focused on the life and work of William Yong. Series host, Robert Desrosiers, introduces and interviews Yong. Yong grew up in Hong Kong where he immersed himself into music at an early age. He had a band that made three albums, including Fundamental. He speaks of being manipulated by the record company but realizes there was a trade-off for fame and fortune. He moved to the dance world by being accepted into the Hong Kong Dance School. It took time, but he did progress and after three years got a grant from the government and studied dance in London for four and one half years. A family reunion brought him to Toronto in 1999. He was soon invited to a dance company with choreographer Christopher House of the TDT. Yong is very interested in film and enjoys calligraphy. There are cameos with Heather Berry and Brenden Wyatt. A number of clips from SUGAR AND SPICE, ALONE ON PAPER, and THE OFFERING are used to illustrate Yong's work. <24mn 20s>
