The date of this map presents problems in that the basic map is much earlier than the details added in red and green. The basic map dates 1898-99. In 1898 the Crow's Nest Pass line was completed1and is shown on this map. In 1899 the railroad between Trail and Midway was completed and is not shown here. The added details include a line illustrating the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway being constructed. Thus the added features date between 1906 and 1914. In 1906, construction started westward from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.3 In 1914, the railway was completed allowing passage of a train from Edmonton to Prince Rupert.4 1.
