Recherche dans la collection - Ground plan of Fort St. Mary's. 29 January 1873. [architectural drawing]

This is a very crude manuscript map supposedly showing the ground plan of Fort St. Marie, a jesuit mission during the years 1639-49. The fort was possibly the first site occupied by Europeans in what is now Ontario. This plan shows the bastions, breastwork and also other features outside the palisades. The plan must be simple conjecture, as the fort was destroyed in 1649 and excavation of the site did not begin until 1948. In reality the fort was much more elongated and differed in many ways from this sketch.
