This map shows the radiotelegraph network of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in the Northwest Territories and the Yukon as it was prior to 1926. With increased mining, trapping, and governmental activity in the: Canadian north after World War I the need for telecommunications became acute. Because of distance and climate land lines would have been impractical. The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals assumed the responsibility of establishing a radiotelegraph network, which they operated until 1957 when responsibility for it was transferred to the Department of Transport. This map shows the system soon after its beginning in 1923. This map is in the: Canadian Geographical Journal, V. LXIV, no. 1, 1962, p. 23.
