This is the third state of this map. The N.M.C. also holds a photocopy of the first* state. The difference between the two states is in the imprint, title and the addition of generalized topographical details and river system throughout the map. "This chart indicates that Edward Cornwallis, governor for three years following the summer of 1749, when he founded Halifax, tried at that early date to encourage emigration from New England to Nova Scotia. It follows in coastal delineation 'A New Chart of the Coast of New England, Nova Scotia...': Gentleman's Magazine, 16 (January, 1746 but usually placed in the bound volumes between pages 72 and 73 of the February number), which in turn is a re-engraving by Thomas Jefferys of Jacques N. Bellin's map of this region, which appeared in Pierre Charlevoix, Histoire de la Nouvelle France in 1744." (Wheat & Brun, no. 77)
