Provenance: One of a collection of nine maps purchased ca. 1931-32 by Mrs. G.M. Parkinson, Burnlay. Lancashire, at an auction of the contents of Lambton Castle, home of the Earl of Durham (The maps were listed as"a collection of Canadian maps presented to the 1st Earl.") Collection purchased from Mrs. Parkinson in 1981. The map shown was presented to Lord Durham by the Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company 18 days before Lord Durham, the new Governor-General of British North America, left England to investigate the situation in the Canadas following the rebellions.
