The area of the circles are proportionate to the population. The red sector indicates the proportion of the total that is of French racial origin. The source fro this map is the population 1951 estimates with the French portion from the 1941 census. A wavy dotted line runs from above Pembroke, through Ottawa to Lancaster. To the north east of this line over 50% of the urban population is of French racial origin, to the southwest of this line under 50% of the urban population is of French racial origin. A dotted circle represents what is considered to be the Metropolitan Ottawa and Hull area. Appended is a population estimate for the urban areas, in 1951 and the percentage of French racial origin in 1941.
