There were disputes between the British colonies and the United States over the interpretation of the United States boundary treaty of 1783. In 1827 an attempt was made to settle this dispute. The map was probably made for and used in arbitration by the King of Netherlands. The Mars Hill Highlands are an inportant feature as the direction of the flow of the rivers from these highlands is indicated. The old seignorial settlements along the St. Lawrence are another important feature on these maps. A stamp of the Geological survey of Canada Ottawa Sep 6 1881 appears on one of these maps. One of the maps was copied by J.H. Brigly, January 1908. Public Record Office, London. The same copy is from the Colonial Correspondance, New Brunswick, Vol. 31, p. 807.
