This map is one of the rarest of 18th century maps. A. Dalrymple included it in a memoir or report entitled "Memoir of a map of the lands around the North Pole ...". In the memoir the author discusses the explorations and mapping of men such as Turnor and Hearne. It was Dalrymple's objective to make an accurate a map as possible of the northern areas. Unfortunately while he recognized many of the shortcomings of both Hearne and Turnor's maps he himself also made errors. Many features have been placed too far north while others are too far south. This particular copy of the map was made from an original in the Public Record office. The map also bears the stamp of "Her Majesty's State Paper Office".
