Recherche dans la collection - Plan of the proposed improvements in the timber channel at the Chaudiere Falls. By Lt. Col. Roy. Comanding Royal Engineers. [cartographic material]

This is a copy of the original plan by the same title which is signed "John By Lt. Colonel Royl. Engrs. Comg. Rideau Canal. 1st January 1829". (See: N.M.C. V1/440/Ottawa/1829). The copyist obviously mistook the name of Lt. Col. By for Lt. Col. Roy as there is no Lt. Roy listed in the records of the Royal Engineers. The improvements on the timber channel helped the flow of timber through the Chaurdiere and contributed to the tremendous growth of the lumber and timber industry in this area. The original map accompanies a letter from By to Colborne and is included in Colbourne's dispatch to Murray at the Colonial Office dated May 25, 1829. Series Q351, pt. 2, p. 396b. Department of Public Works no. 1724 appears on the map.
