The plan was drawn to indicate the location of a proposed bridge which today is the Lasalle Causeway. The numbers on the map refer to a series of plans illustrating the government buildings of Kingston and vicinity, a list of which is given in Holmden's Catalogue, under number 1798. A note on the map states "buildings belonging to the Military are coloured black & those of Navy red". Plan bears the stamp of Inspector General of Fortifications. According to Holmden's Catalogue, the plan was accompanied by a letter from Lt. Col. Durnford to Lt. Genl. Mann dated 17th May, 1824.
